Obituary

Angela Marie Johnson, affectionately known as Ann or Angie, was born on October 30, 1969, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Hillary Johnson and Elonia Lavergne Johnson. The seventh child of a loving family, Angela lived a full and vibrant life rooted in faith, service, and love.

Angela professed her hope in Christ at an early age and was confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Arthur. She later became a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Houston.

She attended schools in the Port Arthur Independent School District, graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1988. Angela continued her education at Texas Southern University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration and a Master of Science in Human Services and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Child Development.

Her professional journey began in service to the State of Texas, but her heart led her to education. For more than twenty years, Angela served students in the Houston area at Jane Long Academy, Hodges Bend Middle School, and Dulles Middle School in Sugar Land as a dedicated SAIL/SPED professional. She touched countless lives with her patience, compassion, and genuine care for every child.

Angela was truly one of a kind. She was the life of the party, always dancing, laughing, and living authentically. She loved traveling, reading, gardening, and attending PlantCon in Houston. Her favorite things were known as the “three P’s”: plants, purple, and Prince. In the fall, she never turned down candy corn, and she cherished her beloved furry companion, Harry Joseph Johnson.

Angela was preceded in death by her father, Hillary Johnson; her brother, Ludwig “Cookie” Johnson, Sr.; her grandmother, Bernice Lavergne Fontenot; and her beloved pet, Grisley.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Gerard II; her mother, Elonia Lavergne Johnson; her siblings Silverina Harris, Benjamin Johnson, Rachel Lee, Nicholas Johnson, and Carolyn Johnson‑Evans (Adolph); and her sister‑cousin, LeTiqua Bellard.

She is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Orlando Harris Jr., April Johnson, Arlyssa Harris, De Angelo Johnson, William Alexander, Brandon Alexander, Ludwig Johnson Jr., Gabriel Evans, Grace Evans, and Josephine Evans and by her cherished godchildren: Khourtini Fears, Khourtland Fears, Khamille Fears, Narkisse Kelly, and Leonard Ashford III. She held a very special place in her heart for Harold “Harry” Joseph Johnson.

Angela will be remembered for her radiant spirit, generous heart, and the love she poured into her family, friends, students, and community.

Immortality

Do not stand
By my grave, and weep.
I am not there,
I do not sleep—
I am the thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle, autumn rain.
As you awake with morning's hush,
I am the swift, up-flinging rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the day transcending night.
Do not stand
By my grave, and cry—
I am not there,
I did not die.

Angie always made sure I was on theme.

Carolyn

Auntie Angie was truly a loving, kind human being! I remember all the times she blessed our presence with her laughter, smile, and loving words. I remember the times she would drive several hours to meet me halfway when I lived in San Antonio to pick up my dog, then drive back to Houston and dog-sit for me while I was out of town. She had a beautiful soul and will always be in our hearts!

Brandon

To the family, my deepest condolences. May God give you strength during this difficult time. RIP classmate.

Nicole

So glad we became fast friends and sisters. You really knew how to keep me on my toes and to talk sense in me when you knew I was being unreasonable. You also knew how to make me mad and then make me like you all over again. I am truly going to miss you. You were the mediator for us and the one that had us try new things and places. I am happy you are no longer in pain and are dancing in heaven. Until I see you again!
